Our work is informed by extensive lived experience of the justice system, postgraduate academic training in Crime & Justice and sustained engagement across institutional, professional and public-facing contexts. Services are delivered personally and selectively, supporting organisations, professionals, individuals, and families where legal, reputational and human consequences intersect.

All engagements are advisory in nature and operate alongside — not in place of — legal, professional and organisational leadership. The practice prioritises discretion, professional judgement and clarity in complex or high-pressure situations.

Extensive first-hand experience of parole hearings, risk assessment, and release decision-making over multiple sentence stages.

HMPPS

Direct lived experience of custodial and probation delivery across public prison and community sentence management environments.

HMIP

Informed understanding of prison inspection frameworks, regime scrutiny and standards of safety, decency, and legitimacy.

Criminal Justice & Parole Contexts

PPO

Extensive experience escalating and evidencing complex prison and probation complaints to the PPO, including engagement with formal investigations and systemic accountability processes.

MOJ

Deep operational experience of Ministry of Justice systems and decision-making, including PPCS processes, MAPPA licence conditions and the practical realities of how policy, risk and accountability operate on the ground.

Extensive experience interpreting probation inspection reports, with deep insight into supervision practice, licence enforcement and risk management in the community.

In-depth understanding of the POA’s role, culture and operational pressures, informed by lived experience of custodial environments and staff–prisoner dynamics.

SERCO

Direct experience of incarceration within Serco-managed prisons and professional engagement with senior Serco managers in operational and strategic contexts.

Psychology, Forensic Practice & Risk

PIPE

Over two years’ lived experience within a specialist PIPE unit, with in-depth understanding of psychologically informed regimes and the Personality Disorder Pathway in custodial settings.

Forensic Psychology Risk Assessments

Extensive experience of multiple forensic psychology risk assessments instructed by the Parole Board and independently, including HCR-20, SPJ frameworks, VRAG/VRAG-R, SAM, SARA, SARN, SAPROF and IPDE.

Direct engagement within a Therapeutic Community wing, with first-hand experience of its structured, relational and responsibility-based rehabilitative regime.

OASys

Over 15 years’ experience with OASys risk assessment, contributing to and working with over 100 parole dossiers, with deep insight into criminogenic needs and RoSH frameworks.

HCPC

Extensive understanding of the HCPC complaints and fitness-to-practise process, from initial complaint through investigation to outcome.

RMP

Advanced understanding of Risk Management Plans from formulation through to implementation and monitoring in the community.

Extensive lived experience of Youth Court procedure and practice, with insight into how youth justice decision-making operates in reality.

Direct experience of Magistrates’ Court proceedings from charge through trial and sentencing, including early-stage decision-making.

Extensive experience of Crown Court proceedings from committal through trial and sentencing in complex and serious cases.

Over 30 years’ lived experience of policing processes, including arrest, interview, police bail and charging decisions.

CPS

Strong understanding of Crown Prosecution Service decision-making, thresholds and case progression from charge to trial.

Legal Aid

Extensive experience of the Legal Aid Agency’s structure and operation across criminal courts, prison law and parole proceedings.

DJMS Solicitors

Provided representation in a highly complex and delayed parole hearing involving multiple adjournments and intricate legal and procedural issues.

Represented me in a complex civil action against the Home Office, from case inception through to trial.

Reece Thomas-Watson Solicitors

Provided specialist representation in a complex Article 10 parole case, resulting in a successful release outcome.

Prison Education

Open University

Eight years’ experience studying in custody, completing an undergraduate degree, a postgraduate certificate and a Master’s degree, alongside supporting other prisoners with enrolment, tutorials and essays.

Shannon Trust

Trained as a Shannon Trust mentor, supporting and teaching prisoners to read and write through peer-led literacy programmes.

PET

Completed multiple courses through the Prisoners’ Education Trust and supported numerous prisoners with course applications and enrolment.

Recovery & Resettlement

Rehabilitation of Addicted Prisoners Trust

Graduated from the RAPt 12-Step programme in custody in 2010 and have maintained long-term abstinence, sponsoring others and facilitating over 500 twelve-step groups across prison and community settings.

St. Giles Trust

Post-release experience engaging with St Giles Trust, including successfully applying for grants to support education, training and resettlement.

Forward Trust

Engaged with the Forward Trust on release, accessed funding for training, participated in recovery support including attending twelve-step reunions.

Approved Premises

Extensive experience of Approved Premises across England, with strong understanding of licence conditions, hostel rules and risk management expectations.

New Connections

Worked with New Connections over five years throughout custody, parole and post-release, engaging directly with release planning and resettlement support.

EPOP

Participated in EPOP meetings with probation staff and senior managers, contributing lived-experience insight to improve probation delivery, effectiveness, and culture.
